Delhi Police Arrest Former YouTuber in 1995 Kidnapping and Murder Cold Case After Nearly Three Decades
Delhi Police have arrested Salim Wastik, formerly Salim Khan, in Loni for his alleged role in the 1995 kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy. The arrest follows fingerprint and photo verification linking him to a 1997 conviction. He had been absconding since 2000 bail, later working in construction and as a cleric while running a controversial YouTube channel.
According to officials, the accused had evaded imprisonment since securing bail in 2000 and remained untraceable for years. During his time at large, he reportedly worked in construction and also served as a cleric. Nearly seven years ago, he launched an anti-Islam YouTube channel, which gained traction and drew support from certain Hindu groups.
The case resurfaced in public focus following a stabbing incident at his residence on February 27 this year. The attack prompted renewed scrutiny of his background, leading law enforcement agencies to reopen the cold case investigation. Subsequent verification of biometric records and images confirmed his identity after he recovered from the attack.
Delhi Police officials stated that the breakthrough came after coordinated verification efforts established a definitive match with the 1997 court conviction records. The arrest marks the culmination of a long-standing manhunt in a case that had remained unresolved for decades.
Authorities are now expected to proceed with further legal action as the investigation continues into both the decades-old conviction and the circumstances surrounding his prolonged evasion of custody.
